Abstract

Soil Capital restructured a Brazilian table grape business with a history of underperformance, by bringing in a new management team and establishing a new strategy, while managing cash conservatively. Throughout this transition, regenerative trials were designed and have since been gradually rolled out.

Thinking out of the box with companion crops

Adding fast growing plants with high biomass production, within the row between the grape vines during the off season, boosts the production of organic matter and helps break the cycle of pest and disease. We used multiple local species such as maize, bananas and legumes.

Training and Group synergy

Shifting the team mindset remains the key factor to enable changes in the operation. It is when people embrace regenerative farming principles that ideas and solutions are implemented, mostly from the local team itself!

Re-building soil armour

In dry conditions a proper soil protection is key to save water, stop herbicide usage and limit the stress on the crop.
