Abstract

Soil Capital worked on a distressed fruit farming operation in Argentina to regenerate soil and prepare the land for future investments, with income-generating measures requiring low working capital and incorporating diversity into the farm ecosystem.

Holistic livestock management as a booster of soil improvement

A holistic cattle operation was designed and implemented, as a rotation after the eradication of an old fruit plantation. Land was dedicated to conventional apple & pear production and usual practices would have required new investment. By incorporating cattle and managing it holistically, land is being regenerated while producing income and transitioning to organic.

Vegetables to break the fruit monocropping

Tomatoes and maize were introduced to further de-risk the farming operation and provide additional revenue.
